Scale against the glazed volume
Showroom sofas sized for solid lounges often overwhelm a narrow conservatory. We measure clear widths between mullions and door swings before specifying seating. A table for six may become a table for four with a bench on the solid wall so chairs do not scrape glass.
Materials that tolerate light and moisture
UV and condensation age fabrics faster under glass than in a north room. We favour wipeable surfaces near doors, fade-tolerant textiles, and timber finishes that can take a damp cloth after plant watering. Pale rattan that glared against Bath stone is usually avoided.
Freestanding first in historic settings
Where the house is listed or conservation-sensitive, freestanding furniture and clip-on shade solutions keep changes reversible. Fixed joinery is discussed only when the client’s architect or builder already owns that scope.
Lighting as furniture
Evening use needs a focused lamp or two; ceiling spots alone often leave a cold pool of light on the floor. Lamp positions are marked so cords do not cross the garden door route.
Shopping lists after the plan
Sourcing notes follow measured drawings. Clients buy from their preferred suppliers; we supply dimensions, finish direction, and quantities. Package fees in GBP sit on the pricing sheet and exclude the goods themselves unless agreed otherwise.
