Route from threshold to garden door
A garden room fails when leftover chairs block both the house opening and the garden swing. We keep a clear walk from threshold to door, with seating that does not fight either leaf. High stone party walls behind many Bath rooms look better when furniture colours stay quiet and planting softens the base of the wall.
Floors and rugs under a glazed roof
Stone, tile, or timber heat and cool differently under glass. Rugs get breathable backs and colours that hide leaf litter from the path. Hard floor stays visible at doorways so wet shoes do not land on pale wool first.
Seating that can move with the weather
Deep sofas only earn their place where winter sun still reaches the cushions. Elsewhere we favour lighter chairs that shift toward the warm corner when the sky closes in. Side tables need stable bases — draughts from door gaps tip light pieces.
Storage off the glass
Cushions, throws, and watering cans need a home that does not stack against the glazing. Low cabinets along solid party walls keep transparent elevations clear so the garden remains the view.
Echo of the Georgian interior
Where the house still shows panelled doors or painted skirtings, we echo those tones lightly in the garden room rather than inventing a separate palette. Continuity matters more than matching every moulding.
